What do we do?

West Wind Projects was born out of the idea, that I am able to share my specialist knowledge, to help people wade through the sometimes technical and daunting task of purchasing a home with independent and experienced advice on what condition the property is in and what maintenance will be required.

When purchasing a property to either live in or to rent out, this asset generally is the biggest purchase in someones life and with the different issues which has occurred in the construction sector, to know what you are purchasing, is what you actually see. Generally known as a Builders Report, these days a Property Inspection has become more specialised, with additional training required to be a Building Surveyor.

My Background

As the owner operator of West Wind Projects, I bring 20 plus years of experience in the residential building sector. From starting out sweeping floors as a Labourer through to working as a Project Manager.

I have been involved with all aspects of residential properties, from minor and major repairs, alterations, additions and new builds – design and build companies, high-end architectural homes and multi-units.

I am a Trade qualified Carpenter and Licensed Building Practitioner and also hold a Certificate in Residential Property Inspection and a Diploma of Building Surveying from the NZ Institute of Building Surveyors

When not working, I am busy enjoying the outdoors lifestyle that Nelson has to offer, whether it be kayaking, mountain biking, tramping or sea kayaking.

For every Report we complete, we proudly donate a tree to be planted on the Project Remeka site near Takaka.


every year, we sit down and calculate our carbon footprint, (Travel – air, car, bus. Accommodation. Waste – which cant be recycled. Power used – Electricity & Gas), while some things are hard to avoid like travel costs due to the fact we have to visit each site we report on! Following that we look at how we can minimise our footprint – little things do count i.e. using refillable printer cartridges, rechargeable batteries, thinking about whether I need to print this document or not?

For the year, 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2018 our footprint was 7.5 tonne CO2 emissions. To offset this we purchased 8 Tonne of Carbon Credits from Remeka Carbon Forest.

Why the Remeka Project?
  • The Remeka Track extends from Cannan Downs on top of Takaka Hill, down to Takaka township in Golden Bay, it was an old historic trading and forestry route.
  • It is run by a non-profit trust, so all the money from purchasing the Carbon Credits goes back into this property.
  • With it being local, we can visit and see, we know where our money is going and that it is being used as it said it would.
  • It is open to the public to walk and mountain bike.
  • The Remeka Track is one of our favourite local day trips to mountain bike.
